Shane was born and raised in Wolfville, Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley.  He graduated from Dalhousie University in 2009 with a Masters in Architecture from Dalhousie University on the RAIC Honor Roll, also receiving the AIA Gold Medal, and Barry Johns Scholarship for Design during his time at Dalhousie.  Shane’s educational background also includes a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies from Dalhousie, and a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the University of Victoria in British Columbia.  Prior to pursuing his architectural education, Shane spent time travelling abroad to work and live in such places as Europe, the Middle East, and South East Asia.

Shane joined MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects in 2009 and has gained considerable experience as a project architect on projects exhibiting a wide range of scales from small private residential renovations to larger commercial and mixed use developments. His practice-wide role is one focused on design, and leadership in building practice and technology. He became a Partner with the firm in 2017.
