This house is located in the agricultural landscape along Nova Scotia's Northumberland shore. It began with the conservation and cultivation of the field through the decision to build alongside an existing hedgerow. The project borrows the narrow, gabeld forms of the local Scottish barns, creating a series of framed courtyard microclimates.

Each of five "barns" contains a different principal program element. In the living pavilion, a central service core accommodates a kitchen, pantry, laundry, bathroom, closets and foyer cabinets. In the library, the inhabitants are wrapped in a continuous liner of books and enjoy a sea-facing day bed. The master suite contains a bedroom and en-suite bathroom. A hearth and second laundry are insterted between the pavilions.

The exterior cladding is corrugated galvalume and aluminum storefront glazing. Interior walls and trusses are stained wood. Concrete floors contain a passive, hydronic in-floor heating system. The result is an essay on the local vernacular building tradition.
