This pool house and spa is constructed into the side of a mountain at the point where it meets the St. Lawrence River valley floor.

Internal bathing and changing areas open onto a gym/lounge with a monumental hearth and a movable glass wall; beyond are a covered terrace, the exterior hot tub and infinity lap pool, and finally to the agrarian floodplain in the distance.  The mechanical plant is buried in the ground behind the house.

This minimalist pavilion, embraced by elongated board-formed concrete walls that reach out into the landscape, is inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s 1929 Barcelona Pavilion, which established the grammar of elemental modern architecture.
